Sunday post 52; It's Monday, what are you reading? 37

The Sunday Post is a chance for a chat and catch-up with other bloggers. It's hosted by Kimba here:
http://caffeinatedbookreviewer.com/ and It's Monday! What are you reading? is now hosted by Kathryn over here: http://bookdate.blogspot.co.nz/

Let's see ... last week was more of the same, I think. Summer holidays grind on for spawn, and unfortunately the weather isn't playing along - we've mostly  had windy, wet days. I think we're all suffering a bit of cabin fever and hoping for better weather so we can at least get out of the house and enjoy some sunshine.

My first reading finish of the year was Black Widow: Forever Red by Margaret Stohl, which I enjoyed a lot. Right now I'm making my way (slowly) through the Alexander Hamilton biography by Ron Chernow (and listening to the Hamilton soundtrack right now). I don't read a lot of non-fiction and find I have to shift my brain's gears to do it, but my brain has become lazy, so this mental workout will be good for it.

I also posted a short post asking how people expand their worlds - mine is feeling particularly small at the moment - so I'll pose the question here again - how do you make  your world bigger?

Tomorrow I start working on the spreadsheet I've been contracted to do, and I'm hoping I'll hear from the polytech pretty soon as well, so I can make some plans. If I know I'm going to be studying for sure, then I can suspend the ever soul-destroying job search for a bit. For now, however, I remain in limbo.

I rearranged my TBR bookcase yesterday, and though I know I won't get through all of these this year, having it so much tidier is nice. Here's a before and after shot, so you can all see it :)

(Just ... ignore the mess around it - lol.)

How about you? How do you make your world bigger? How's your week? What are you reading?

  1. I wondered about the Black Widow book. And I hear you on expanding the world- it can be easy to get in a rut or not really expand horizons with the routine of work or school or whatever. I wish i had a good answer. :) Sometimes getting out and just doing something like a movie or spending a weekend afternoon at the bookstore or coffee shop, or with friends, helps me.

  2. I like Marvel movies but never read any of marvel comics or books but I am interested in all the YA origin stories coming out. I hope the weather clears up for you.

  3. Your TBR bookcase looks great. Very organized! ;)
Black Widow sounds like a good read. I’m glad you enjoyed it. It’s always a great feeling when your first book of the year is a good one!
Have a great week and happy reading!

  4. Cabin fever... yup I hear you! and winter has only started for us! :( "Black Widow" oh anything with that name sounds good!

That's the best way I ever heard way to describe job hunting: "soul-destroying" I HATE searching for a job too. Good luck when you resume it!

WOW Maree that's quite the question! How do you make your world bigger? Now off to read that post :) Have a great week!

  5. We moved a lot with my husbands jobs, so I expanded my circle and made friends by volunteering, at the schools, in the community and also met folks at the library and B&N functions.

  6. Yucky weather when the kids are out of school are the worst! A day or two is fine but after that we all start climbing the walls here. Love the shelf! It looks so pretty an organized. My answer for world expanding is similar to Kim's. I volunteer a lot at my son's school and have gotten to know the people at my local library branch. As well I go to the gym pretty regularly and have gotten to know a few people there. I also interact a lot with bloggers online and get a lot of satisfaction out of that. Of course I'm also an introvert and would rather my world not be too big!

  7. I hope you hear something on the study front soon.

As for the weather, it was the thing I loved about Christchurch when I visited and I have the weather there set on my phone so as I groan about our hot humid days I check to see what it's like there and it's usually so much cooler. And yes, often wet and windy. I can understand though how that would be problematic if you're trying to entertain kids.

People I know with kids often socialise a lot with other parents... met via school drop off and playdates and stuff.

When I first moved here I joined a writers group and went to some women's networking things. I now do yoga and even though I'm not 'friendly' with anyone from the class there are people I talk to each week and that's kinda nice.

  8. I totally understand about wanting to expand your world. My life is extremely boring. I’m thinking about volunteering or getting a better job. I hope you find something that works, and your bookshelves look great!

    Megan: Thanks. Me too!

Maureen: Thanks! We'll see how long it stays that way - lol.

Dragonfly: It's certainly frustrating. Have a great week! :)

Kimba: All good things! I've thought about volunteering, I'll have to look into it more.

Katherine: I think we're all climbing the walls at this point! Thanks :)
